Home Visiting Services (HVS) continues to provide parenting support for families working with Child Welfare Services, Voluntary Case Management, and Family Strengthening Services. Over the past few years, HVS staff have become more skilled in implementing the Parents As Teachers (PAT) model. The PAT model has been shown to produce positive benefits, including a reduction in child maltreatment, improved school readiness, and better health outcomes.
From the moment they meet us, we make parents feel seen and heard. We use warm, compassionate language to reassure families and caregivers that their children are in good hands. Raising children is not always easy, but it is always worthwhile. Our home visitors strive to be friendly, maintain an upbeat attitude, and encourage parents to have the strength to overcome obstacles and focus on the positive. Over the past year, the HVS program has observed a growing interest among our clients in attending group connections. This increase has provided an opportunity for HVS staff to take on a more significant role in planning and executing Early Head Start’s monthly family socializations using the Parents As Teachers model and planning guide. Further, increasing our commitment to the PAT model.
HVS works closely with Early Intervention, the Fatherhood Initiative, and Early Head Start to support our clients based on their specific needs. This joint partnership, along with the Parents As Teachers model, helps families boost their children’s health, safety, and ability to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. We are building a strong and nurturing foundation for the next generation. While our work focuses on the present, our vision looks to the future to highlight a lasting result: joyful children, thriving families, and a strong community.
